I’m confused as I stare skyward
The stark dichotomy of the stars and your urban smile
Smelling grass and exhaust, hearing crickets and burning pavement
They blend in your sterile eyes. I don’t know you.
You’re just another street-corner chrysalis
Luna moth soul long gone, circling the oblivious universe lights
Do you know why? The light is bright through the other eye.
Like eye patch pirates circling unattainable gold.
The clouds descend and whet the grass’s appetite
They wet the meadow like a subtle storm
And desperate ground will leech away what it can
Before a hellish sun steals its floating rivers back
Poetic? Pathetic.
You’re long gone, another depression in the field
Light splits the dark vista ahead, blinding.
I get up, take the paper, stretch.
Another well-spent nocturnal day.

When it seems like living's harder than dying
For me, giving up's way harder than trying.
